UniProt Comments for ESL-1

Function: Binds fibroblast growth factor and E-selectin (cell-adhesion lectin on endothelial cells mediating the binding of neutrophils).

Subcellular location: Golgi apparatus membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein Ref.7.

Tissue specificity: Widely expressed. Highest levels in pancreas, skeletal muscle, placenta, heart, testis and ovary. Also found in the kidney, liver, lung and brain. Ref.8

Developmental stage: Expressed both in adult and fetal tissues.

Post-translational modification: Fucosylation is essential for binding to E-selectin

By similarity.N-glycosylated. Contains sialic acid residues

By similarity. Ref.9

Sequence similarities: Contains 16 Cys-rich GLG1 repeats.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAB02178.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Frameshift at positions 27 and 35.
