AITRL Human Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS691626

AITRL, a member of the TNF superfamily, is expressed in endothelial cells, and signals through the AITR receptor. AITRL regulates T-cell proliferation and survival, and effectuates the interaction between T lymphocytes and endothelial cells. The AITRL gene… More details

NCBI Summary for AITRL

The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. This cytokine is a ligand for receptor TNFRSF18/AITR/GITR. It has been shown to modulate T lymphocyte survival in peripheral tissues. This cytokine is also found to be expressed in endothelial cells, and is thought to be important for interaction between T lymphocytes and endothelial cells. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for AITRL

Function: Cytokine that binds to TNFRSF18/AITR/GITR. Regulates T-cell responses. Can function as costimulator and lower the threshold for T-cell activation and T-cell proliferation. Important for interactions between activated T-lymphocytes and endothelial cells. Mediates activation of NF-kappa-B. Ref.8 Ref.9

Subunit structure: Homodimer

By similarity. Homotrimer. Ref.9

Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein Ref.8.

Tissue specificity: Expressed at high levels in the small intestine, ovary, testis, kidney and endothelial cells.

Induction: Up-regulated after stimulation by bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the tumor necrosis factor family.

Caution: It is uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-23 is the initiator.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAH93986.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally extended. The sequence AAI12033.1 differs from that shown.
