NCBI Summary for Hnrnpk

DNA and pre-mRNA binding protein, binds primarily with cytidine-rich (poly-C) sequences [RGD, Feb 2006]

UniProt Comments for Hnrnpk

hnRNP K: a heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP). One of the major pre-mRNA-binding proteins. Binds tenaciously to poly(C) sequences. Likely to play a role in the nuclear metabolism of hnRNAs, particularly for pre-mRNAs that contain cytidine-rich sequences. Can also bind poly(C) single-stranded DNA. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Protein type: RNA-binding; RNA splicing; Spliceosome

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; spliceosome; focal adhesion; cell projection; membrane; nuclear chromatin; cytoplasm; podosome; cell junction

Molecular Function: RNA binding; single-stranded DNA binding

Biological Process: transcription, DNA-dependent; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; negative regulation of nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome; RNA splicing; positive regulation of low-density lipoprotein receptor biosynthetic process; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; mRNA processing; positive regulation of receptor-mediated endocytosis
