NCBI Summary for CCKAR

This gene encodes a G-protein coupled receptor that binds non-sulfated members of the cholecystokinin (CCK) family of peptide hormones. This receptor is a major physiologic mediator of pancreatic enzyme secretion and smooth muscle contraction of the gallbladder and stomach. In the central and peripheral nervous system this receptor regulates satiety and the release of beta-endorphin and dopamine. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for CCKAR

CCKAR: Receptor for cholecystokinin. Mediates pancreatic growth and enzyme secretion, smooth muscle contraction of the gall bladder and stomach. Has a 1000-fold higher affinity for CCK rather than for gastrin. It modulates feeding and dopamine-induced behavior in the central and peripheral nervous system. This receptor mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, GPCR; Membrane protein, multi-pass; GPCR, family 1

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4p15.2

Cellular Component: cytosol; endoplasmic reticulum; endosome; integral to plasma membrane; lysosome; plasma membrane; terminal button

Molecular Function: cholecystokinin receptor activity

Biological Process: actin cytoskeleton reorganization; axonogenesis; cellular response to hormone stimulus; digestion; elevation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; feeding behavior; forebrain development; G-protein signaling, coupled to IP3 second messenger (phospholipase C activating); gastric acid secretion; insulin secretion; neuron migration; organ regeneration; pancreas development; pancreatic juice secretion; reduction of food intake in response to dietary excess; regulation of calcium ion transport; regulation of hormone secretion; regulation of potassium ion transport; response to glucocorticoid stimulus; response to heat; response to lipopolysaccharide; response to nutrient; response to radiation; response to starvation; thermoregulation
