NCBI Summary for POLR3F

The protein encoded by this gene is one of more than a dozen subunits forming eukaryotic RNA polymerase III (RNA Pol III), which transcribes 5S ribosomal RNA and tRNA genes. This protein has been shown to bind both TFIIIB90 and TBP, two subunits of RNA polymerase III transcription initiation factor IIIB (TFIIIB). Unlike most of the other RNA Pol III subunits, the encoded protein is unique to this polymerase. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013]

UniProt Comments for POLR3F

POLR3F: DNA-dependent RNA polymerase catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. Specific peripheric component of RNA polymerase III which synthesizes small RNAs, such as 5S rRNA and tRNAs. May direct RNA Pol III binding to the TFIIIB-DNA complex. Plays a key role in sensing and limiting infection by intracellular bacteria and DNA viruses. Acts as nuclear and cytosolic DNA sensor involved in innate immune response. Can sense non-self dsDNA that serves as template for transcription into dsRNA. The non-self RNA polymerase III transcripts, such as Epstein-Barr virus-encoded RNAs (EBERs) induce type I interferon and NF- Kappa-B through the RIG-I pathway. Belongs to the eukaryotic RPC34/RPC39 RNA polymerase subunit family.

Protein type: Nucleotide Metabolism - pyrimidine; Transcription initiation complex; Nucleotide Metabolism - purine

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 20p11.23

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; DNA-directed RNA polymerase III complex; cytosol

Molecular Function: protein binding; DNA binding; DNA-directed RNA polymerase activity

Biological Process: transcription from RNA polymerase III promoter; termination of RNA polymerase III transcription; regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase III promoter; positive regulation of innate immune response; positive regulation of interferon-beta production; positive regulation of interferon type I production; innate immune response; gene expression; defense response to virus; RNA elongation from RNA polymerase III promoter
