Caspase-6 (CASP6) Antibody – Rabbit Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS840174

Background: Caspase-6 is one of the major executioner caspases functioning in cellular apoptotic processes. Similar as other caspases, caspase-6 is also synthesized as an inactive pro-enzyme that is processed in cells undergoing apoptosis. Caspase-6 has also… More details

NCBI Summary for Casp6

member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family that plays a terminal role in apoptosis [RGD, Feb 2006]

UniProt Comments for Casp6

CASP6: Involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Cleaves poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase in vitro, as well as lamins. Overexpression promotes programmed cell death. Heterotetramer that consists of two anti-parallel arranged heterodimers, each one formed by a 18 kDa (p18) and a 11 kDa (p11) subunit. Interacts with BIRC6/bruce. Activation is suppressed by phosphorylation at Ser-257. Belongs to the peptidase C14A family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 3.4.22.59; Apoptosis; Protease

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; cytoplasm; nucleus; cytosol

Molecular Function: identical protein binding; cysteine-type endopeptidase activity; endopeptidase activity

Biological Process: lens development in camera-type eye; response to metal ion; positive regulation of retinal cell programmed cell death; positive regulation of apoptosis; apoptosis; acute inflammatory response to non-antigenic stimulus; response to testosterone stimulus; response to organic nitrogen; proteolysis; response to estradiol stimulus; response to organic substance; epithelial cell differentiation; response to hydrogen peroxide; response to heat; response to cytokine stimulus; positive regulation of neuron apoptosis; response to glucose stimulus; response to gamma radiation; response to iron ion
