FKBP38 Antibody – Rabbit Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS840677

Background: FK506-binding protein 38 (FKBP38), a member of the immunophilin family, has been implicated to play an important role in apoptosis thromugh its involvement in the mechanism that targets Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL to the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM).… More details

UniProt Comments for FKBP38

FKBP8: Constitutively inactive PPiase, which becomes active when bound to calmodulin and calcium. Seems to act as a chaperone for BCL2, targets it to the mitochondria and modulates its phosphorylation state. The BCL2/FKBP8/calmodulin/calcium complex probably interferes with the binding of BCL2 to its targets. The active form of FKBP8 may therefore play a role in the regulation of apoptosis. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Chaperone; Isomerase; EC 5.2.1.8; Mitochondrial

Cellular Component: mitochondrial envelope; mitochondrion; membrane; integral to membrane; integral to endoplasmic reticulum membrane

Molecular Function: identical protein binding; peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase activity; FK506 binding; isomerase activity
