Survivin (BIRC5) Antibody – Rabbit Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS840692

Background: Survivin is a newly described apoptosis inhibitor that is expressed in many human cancers, but undetectable in terminally differentiated adult tissues. It has been shown that recombinant expression of Survivin conteracts apoptosis of B lymphocyte… More details

NCBI Summary for Birc5

This gene is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) gene family, which encode negative regulatory proteins that prevent apoptotic cell death. IAP family members usually contain multiple baculovirus IAP repeat (BIR) domains, but this gene encodes proteins with only a single BIR domain. The encoded proteins also lack a C-terminus RING finger domain. In humans, gene expression is high during fetal development and in most tumors yet low in adult tissues. Antisense transcripts have been identified in human that regulate this gene's expression. At least three transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene, although at least one of these transcript variants is a nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) candidate. UniProt Comments for Birc5

Survivin: an apoptosis inhibitor that is expressed during the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. Associates with the microtubules of the mitotic spindle and any disruption results in the loss of apoptosis activity. May play a role in neoplasia. Inhibitor of caspase-3 and caspase-7. Two splice variant isoforms have been described.
