Western blotting (1:500 - 1:2000) and Immunoprecipitation. HeLa cell lysate can be used as a positive control. However, the optimal concentrations should be determined individually. The antibody recognizes the MCAK of human origin. Reactivity to other species has not been tested.

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-MCAK antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for MCAK

This gene encodes a kinesin-like protein that functions as a microtubule-dependent molecular motor. The encoded protein can depolymerize microtubules at the plus end, thereby promoting mitotic chromosome segregation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. UniProt Comments for MCAK

KIF2C: In complex with KIF18B, constitutes the major microtubule plus-end depolymerizing activity in mitotic cells. Regulates the turnover of microtubules at the kinetochore and functions in chromosome segregation during mitosis. Belongs to the kinesin-like protein family. MCAK/KIF2 subfamily. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Microtubule-binding; Cancer Testis Antigen (CTA); Motor; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p34.1

Cellular Component: kinetochore; microtubule cytoskeleton; kinesin complex; membrane; cytoplasmic microtubule; nucleus; cytosol; chromosome, pericentric region

Molecular Function: centromeric DNA binding; microtubule plus-end binding; protein binding; ATPase activity; microtubule motor activity; ATP binding

Biological Process: cell proliferation; mitosis; cell division; metabolic process; antigen processing and presentation of exogenous peptide antigen via MHC class II; microtubule depolymerization; regulation of chromosome segregation; mitotic cell cycle; blood coagulation; mitotic metaphase plate congression; microtubule-based movement; establishment and/or maintenance of microtubule cytoskeleton polarity
