UniProt Comments for GA

Function: Methylates the carboxyl group of several gibberellins (GAs). Substrate preference is GA4 > GA34 > GA9 > GA3 > GA1 > GA51 > GA20. No activity with diterpenes abietic acid and ent-kaurenoic acid. Ref.5

Catalytic activity: S-adenosyl-L-methionine + gibberellin A4 = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + methyl gibberellin A4. Ref.5

Cofactor: Binds 1 magnesium ion per subunit

By similarity.

Enzyme regulation: Down-regulated by Zn2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+. No effect of K+, NH4+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Mn2+ and Fe2+. Ref.5

Tissue specificity: Expressed in siliques and germinating seeds. Not detected in leaves, stems, flowers and roots. Ref.5

Developmental stage: Expression begins at early stages of silique development, peaks in the second half of this process and decreases after the start of desiccation. Ref.5

Induction: Up-regulated by alamethicin, but not by herbivory. Ref.4 Ref.5

Disruption phenotype: No visible phenotype, even in gamt1 and gamt2 double mutants. Ref.5

Miscellaneous: Overexpression of GAMT2 results in dwarf phenotype (Ref.5).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily. Type-7 methyltransferase family. SABATH subfamily.

Biophysicochemical propertiesKinetic parameters:kcat is 0.0015 sec(-1) for GA4. kcat is 0.0018 sec(-1) for GA9.KM=5.9 µM for GA4 Ref.5KM=1.9 µM for GA9pH dependence:Optimum pH is 8.0.

Sequence caution: The sequence BAB11257.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally extended.
