The problem of the joints can develop as the result of various conditions that dislocates or forces them out of their position. This can include conditions such as arthritis that causes inflammation of the joint which can become severely affected over time, bursitis that is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sac that cushions the joints and dislocations from the injuries. Depending on the cause of the problem, the treatment options also vary. This can consist of pain relievers, rehabilitation, preventing the movements of the affected area or surgery. In the case of arthritis or other diseases, a joint replacement surgery may be required. Some of the joint problems include degenerative disease, bone diseases, joint dislocation, bacterial arthritis, joint stiffness, connective tissue disease, joint effusion dislocated shoulder, contracture and sprain. Some of the diseases of the joints include osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, osteomyelitis, psoriatic arthritis and rheumatism.
Gout
This is a form of arthritis that develops as the result of increased level of uric acid in the blood. This is one of the few arthritic conditions where the problem of the joints can be prevented with treatment. The acute form of this condition can be triggered by the heavy consumption of alcohol and the pain may get better after a week. The chronic gout is the result of increased level of uric acid in the body over a long period of time causing joint damages. Gout can develop from the increased level of uric acid that the body produces or the inability of the kidney to excrete it. This high level of uric acid accumulates forming crystals affecting the joints causing the inflammation and the pain associated with this condition. Some of the symptoms include episodes of severe pain in the joints, swollen joints and tenderness. The treatment consists of medications that control the production or the removal of uric acid.
Rheumatoid arthritis
This is one of an autoimmune arthritis that causes stiffness, swelling, pain and causes serious damage to the joints. This is also an inflammatory condition that limits the functions of various joints. The cause of this arthritis is not known but is believed to be associated with the immune system malfunction that attacks the normal tissues resulting in their inflammation. Some of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include painful joints, stiffness and swelling. This initially affects the joints of the fingers and the toes but continue to affect the knees, wrist, ankles and the elbows. The treatment includes medications to relieve the symptoms and to accommodate lifestyle changes such as exercise, healthy diet and lowering stress. In some cases, a surgery can reduce the pain and enable better joints function.
Osteoarthritis
This is one of the common types of arthritis that develops when the cartilage wears off with time. This commonly affects the hands, hips, knees and the spine. The symptoms of this condition develop slowly over time and include pain, tenderness, loss of flexibility, bone spurs and stiffness. This condition cannot be reversed although the symptoms can be managed with therapies, lifestyle changes, medications and in some cases surgery. Maintaining healthy weight is one of the important treatment plans of osteoarthritis. The treatment also consists of medications to relieve the pain and to reduce the inflammation. The surgical procedures can include cortisone injections into the space within the joint that relieve the pain, lubrication injection to also provide relief from pain by cushioning the knee or a joint replacement.
