Biological Significance
Clinically, alpha 1 acid glycoprotein is an acute-phase reactant that together with haptoglobin is an indicator of acute inflammation. The alpha 1 acid glycoprotein:haptolobin ratio is useful in studies of bone marrow disorders, hemolytic processes and metastases.
Biohazard
Prepared from plasma which tested non-reactive for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV-1&2 by FDA required testes
Biohazard Information
Donor samples were tested and found to be negative for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV 1 & 2. Nonetheless caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes
Small volumes of Orm1 native protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for Orm1
an acute phase reactant protein; may have a role in the acute inflammation response [RGD, Feb 2006]
UniProt Comments for Orm1
ORM1: Functions as transport protein in the blood stream. Binds various ligands in the interior of its beta-barrel domain. Also binds synthetic drugs and influences their distribution and availability in the body. Appears to function in modulating the activity of the immune system during the acute-phase reaction. Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Lipocalin family.

Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted

Cellular Component: extracellular space

Molecular Function: drug binding

Biological Process: response to drug; response to vitamin E; organ regeneration; regulation of immune system process; transport; acute-phase response; response to lipopolysaccharide; chronic inflammatory response to antigenic stimulus; response to organic cyclic substance; acute inflammatory response to antigenic stimulus
