Other Notes

Small volumes of FAD2-1 recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for FAD2-1

Function: ER (microsomal) omega-6 fatty acid desaturase introduces the second double bond in the biosynthesis of 18:3 fatty acids, important constituents of plant membranes. It is thought to use cytochrome b5 as an electron donor and to act on fatty acids esterified to phosphatidylcholine and, possibly, other phospholipids.

Pathway: Lipid metabolism; polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis.

Subcellular location: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

Tissue specificity: Strongly expressed in developing seeds.

Domain: The histidine box domains may contain the active site and/or be involved in metal ion binding.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the fatty acid desaturase family.
