NCBI Summary for TCEA2

The protein encoded by this gene is found in the nucleus, where it functions as an SII class transcription elongation factor. Elongation factors in this class are responsible for releasing RNA polymerase II ternary complexes from transcriptional arrest at template-encoded arresting sites. The encoded protein has been shown to interact with general transcription factor IIB, a basal transcription factor. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. UniProt Comments for TCEA2

TCEA2: Necessary for efficient RNA polymerase II transcription elongation past template-encoded arresting sites. The arresting sites in DNA have the property of trapping a certain fraction of elongating RNA polymerases that pass through, resulting in locked ternary complexes. Cleavage of the nascent transcript by S-II allows the resumption of elongation from the new 3'-terminus. Belongs to the TFS-II family.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 20q13.33

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; transcription elongation factor complex; centrosome

Molecular Function: protein binding; DNA binding; zinc ion binding

Biological Process: RNA elongation; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of RNA elongation
