Recognizes ATIC, otherwise known as AICAR, a ribonucleotide formyltransferase (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide formyltransferase) and member of the purH family, which helps catalyze the final steps of the purine biosynthesis pathway. ATIC has been identified as an activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a known regulator of energy homeostasis, inhibitor of cell proliferation and inducer of apoptosis in cancerous cells of various origins, making ATIC a potential therapeutic agent for cancer. The anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective functions of ATIC, also have implications for its use in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) of anti-AICAR antibody

Anti-ATIC antibody IHC of human small intestine. Immunohistochemistry of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue after heat-induced antigen retrieval. Antibody concentration 10 ug/ml.
Mouse Anti-AICAR Monoclonal Antibody – Cat# MBS245994

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-AICAR antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for AICAR

This gene encodes a bifunctional protein that catalyzes the last two steps of the de novo purine biosynthetic pathway. The N-terminal domain has phosphoribosylaminoimidazolecarboxamide formyltransferase activity, and the C-terminal domain has IMP cyclohydrolase activity. A mutation in this gene results in AICA-ribosiduria. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

UniProt Comments for AICAR

ATIC: Bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes 2 steps in purine biosynthesis. Defects in ATIC are the cause of AICAR transformylase/IMP cyclohydrolase deficiency (AICAR). A neurologically devastating inborn error of purine biosynthesis. Patients excrete massive amounts of AICA-riboside in the urine and accumulate AICA- ribotide and its derivatives in erythrocytes and fibroblasts. AICAR causes profound mental retardation, epilepsy, dysmorphic features and congenital blindness. Belongs to the PurH family.
