NCBI Summary for ASF

SR1 is a plant homologue of the human general/alternative splicing factor SF2/ASF.

UniProt Comments for ASF

Function: General splicing factor. Can promote splice site selection in vitro presumably by antagonizing the effects of the A1 heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein. May have an essential function during early plant development. Ref.8

Subunit structure: Component of the spliceosome. Interacts with SNRNP35, RS2Z33, SR34, CYP59, CYP63 and CYP95. The binding to CYP63 is phosphorylation-dependent (Ref.12). Ref.11 Ref.12 Ref.15 Ref.17

Subcellular location: Nucleus speckle. Nucleus › nucleoplasm Ref.13 Ref.14 Ref.16.

Tissue specificity: Ubiquitous. Ref.8 Ref.11 Ref.13

Post-translational modification: Extensively phosphorylated on serine residues in the RS domain. Ref.8 Ref.9 Ref.12

Miscellaneous: The splicing pattern of the pre-mRNA is regulated in a tissue-specific manner and by development, and changes in response to various types of abiotic stresses and hormones (Ref.8, Ref.18).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the splicing factor SR family. SR subfamily.Contains 2 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains.
