Application Notes for anti-FKBP8 antibody
Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 32000.
Western Blot: Preliminary experiments gave an approx 28kDa band in Human Brain (Frontal Cortex) and Rat Brain lysates after 1ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 44.6kDa according to NP_036313.3. The 28kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-FKBP8 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for FKBP8

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the immunophilin protein family, which play a role in immunoregulation and basic cellular processes involving protein folding and trafficking. Unlike the other members of the family, this encoded protein does not seem to have PPIase/rotamase activity. It may have a role in neurons associated with memory function. UniProt Comments for FKBP8

FKBP8: Constitutively inactive PPiase, which becomes active when bound to calmodulin and calcium. Seems to act as a chaperone for BCL2, targets it to the mitochondria and modulates its phosphorylation state. The BCL2/FKBP8/calmodulin/calcium complex probably interferes with the binding of BCL2 to its targets. The active form of FKBP8 may therefore play a role in the regulation of apoptosis. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 5.2.1.8; Membrane protein, integral; Isomerase; Chaperone; Mitochondrial

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19p12

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; integral to endoplasmic reticulum membrane; membrane; mitochondrial membrane

Molecular Function: FK506 binding; identical protein binding; metal ion binding; peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase activity; protein binding

Biological Process: apoptosis; camera-type eye development; cell fate specification; dorsoventral neural tube patterning; multicellular organism growth; negative regulation of apoptosis; positive regulation of BMP signaling pathway; protein peptidyl-prolyl isomerization; smoothened signaling pathway; viral reproduction
