Western Blot (WB) of anti-NES antibody

Mouse Anti-NES Monoclonal Antibody – Cat# MBS500041

Immunostaining of anti-NES antibody

Immunostaining of cultured E20 rat cortical neurons and glia stained with anti-nestin antibody (MBS500041, red, 1:500) and anti-MAP2 antibody (MBS502140, green, 1:500). The blue is Hoechst staining for nuclear DNA. The nestin antibody labels developing astrocytes and neuronal stem cells in a clearly filamentous fashion, while the MAP2 antibody stains dendrites and perikarya of mature neurons.

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-NES antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for NES

This gene encodes a member of the intermediate filament protein family and is expressed primarily in nerve cells. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011]

UniProt Comments for NES

Function: Required for brain and eye development. Promotes the disassembly of phosphorylated vimentin intermediate filaments (IF) during mitosis and may play a role in the trafficking and distribution of IF proteins and other cellular factors to daughter cells during progenitor cell division. Required for survival, renewal and mitogen-stimulated proliferation of neural progenitor cells

By similarity.

Subunit structure: Forms homodimers and homotetramers in vitro. In mixtures with other intermediate filament proteins such as vimentin and alpha-internexin, tis protein preferentially forms heterodimers which can assemble to form intermediate filaments if nestin does not exceed 25%. Interacts with FHOD3

By similarity.

Tissue specificity: CNS stem cells.

Developmental stage: Upon terminal neural differentiation, nestin is down-regulated and replaced by neurofilaments.

Post-translational modification: Constitutively phosphorylated. This increases during mitosis when the cytoplasmic intermediate filament network is reorganized

By similarity.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the intermediate filament family.
