UniProt Comments for WEE2

WEE1B: a protein kinase of the WEE family expressed only in oocytes. Downregulation by RNAi causes a leaky meiotic arrest. The inhibitory effects of the kinase are enhanced when Ser15 is phosphorylated. Appears to be a key MPF inhibitory kinase in mouse oocytes and is required for maintaining meiotic arrest.

Protein type: EC 2.7.10.2; Kinase, protein; Other group; Protein kinase, Other; Protein kinase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor); WEE family; WEE1 subfamily

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6|6 B1

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein-tyrosine kinase activity

Biological Process: female meiosis; female pronucleus formation; negative regulation of cyclin-dependent protein kinase activity
