Insulin-Degrading Enzyme (IDE) ELISA Kit for Human

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS764935

Background: Insulin degrading enzyme (IDE), initiates the cleavage of insulin, resulting in insulin response and resistance. However, IDE also degrades a variety of bioactive peptides, including amyloid-beta peptides, implicating IDE in certain age-related… More details

Other Notes

Small volumes of IDE elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

MBS764935 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing IDE. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS764935 kit is based on IDE antibody-IDE antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect IDE antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, IDE. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for IDE

This gene encodes a zinc metallopeptidase that degrades intracellular insulin, and thereby terminates insulins activity, as well as participating in intercellular peptide signalling by degrading diverse peptides such as glucagon, amylin, bradykinin, and kallidin. The preferential affinity of this enzyme for insulin results in insulin-mediated inhibition of the degradation of other peptides such as beta-amyloid. Deficiencies in this protein's function are associated with Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus but mutations in this gene have not been shown to be causitive for these diseases. This protein localizes primarily to the cytoplasm but in some cell types localizes to the extracellular space, cell membrane, peroxisome, and mitochondrion. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. Additional transcript variants have been described but have not been experimentally verified.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

UniProt Comments for IDE

IDE: Plays a role in the cellular breakdown of insulin, IAPP, glucagon, bradykinin, kallidin and other peptides, and thereby plays a role in intercellular peptide signaling. Degrades amyloid formed by APP and IAPP. May play a role in the degradation and clearance of naturally secreted amyloid beta-protein by neurons and microglia. Belongs to the peptidase M16 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
