The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing IL-17. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS765010 kit is based on IL-17 antibody-IL-17 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect IL-17 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, IL-17. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. The protein encoded by this gene is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by activated T cells. This cytokine regulates the activities of NF-kappaB and mitogen-activated protein kinases. This cytokine can stimulate the expression of IL6 and cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX-2), as well as enhance the production of nitric oxide (NO). High levels of this cytokine are associated with several chronic inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and multiple sclerosis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
