Visfatin (NAMPT) Antibody – Rabbit Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS840607

Background: Visfatin is a cytokine highly expressed in visceral fat and blood. This protein has also been reported to be a cytokine (PBEF) that promotes B cell maturation and inhibits neutrophil apoptosis. Visfatin is thomught to have insulin-like activities… More details

NCBI Summary for Nampt

has similarity to cytokines but is not secreted; localized to the nucleus and cytoplasm, changes in subcellular localization may be associated with the cell cycle [RGD, Feb 2006]

UniProt Comments for Nampt

PBEF: an ubiquitous protein originally described as a cytokine which acts on early B-lineage precursor cells. Other reports indicate that PBEF is not a cytokine-like secreted protein but an intracellular protein associated with the cell cycle. Contains a catalytically active nicotinate phosphoribosyltransferase domain, an enzyme involved in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) biosynthesis.

Protein type: EC 2.4.2.12; Cytokine; Cell cycle regulation; Cofactor and Vitamin Metabolism - nicotinate and nicotinamide; Transferase

Cellular Component: extracellular space; cytoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein homodimerization activity; nicotinate-nucleotide diphosphorylase (carboxylating) activity; cytokine activity; drug binding; nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase activity

Biological Process: NAD biosynthetic process; positive regulation of smooth muscle cell proliferation; insulin receptor signaling pathway; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; female pregnancy; circadian regulation of gene expression; response to organic cyclic substance; positive regulation of nitric-oxide synthase biosynthetic process
