Product Overview

Online Datasheet in PDF
Product Name
Interleukin 11 (IL11), Active Protein
Full Product Name
Interleukin 11, Recombinant, Human (IL-11)
Product Gene Name
Form/Format
Supplied as a lyophilized powder. No additives. Reconstitute in sterile ddH2O not less than 100ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Purity/Purification
Highly Purified
98% by RP-HPLC, anion-exchange FPLC, reducing/non-reducing SDS-PAGE Silver Stain. Chromatographically purified.Endotoxin: 0.1ng/ug (IEU/ug)
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile dH2O and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Molecular Weight
21,429 Da
Chromosome Location
Chromosome: 19; NC_000019.9 (55875757..55881814, complement). Location: 19q13.3-q13.4
OMIM
147681
3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for P20809
Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Biological Activity
rHuIL-11 is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of murine 7TD1 was found to be < 10ng/ml, corresponding to a Specific Activity of 1x10e5 IU/mg.
Dimers and Aggregates
1% as determined by silver-stained SDS-PAGE gel analysis.
Endotoxin Level
0.1ng/ug (IEU/ug) of rHuIL-11
Protein Content
Protein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods:
1. UV spectroscopy at 280nm using the absorbency value of 0.95 as the extinction coefficient for a 0.1% (1mg/ml) solution. This value is calculated by the PC GENE computer analysis program of protein sequences (IntelliGenetics).
2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a calibrated solution of IL-11 as a Reference Standard.

Other Notes

Small volumes of IL11 active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for IL11

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the gp130 family of cytokines. These cytokines drive the assembly of multisubunit receptor complexes, all of which contain at least one molecule of the transmembrane signaling receptor IL6ST (gp130). This cytokine is shown to stimulate the T-cell-dependent development of immunoglobulin-producing B cells. It is also found to support the proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells. [provided by RefSeq]

UniProt Comments for IL11

Function: Directly stimulates the proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells and induces megakaryocyte maturation resulting in increased platelet production.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Pharmaceutical use: Available under the name Neumega (Wyeth). Used for the prevention of severe thrombocytopenia and the reduction of the need for platelet transfusion following myelosuppressive chemotherapy.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-6 superfamily.
