MGMT, Western Blot Control (MGMT) Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS636503

MGMT (O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase). Many tumor promoting/causing agents (BCNU, CCNU, DTIC, procarbazine, temozolomide, etc) generate lethal cross-links at the O6-alkylguanine position in DNA. MGMT removes alkyl adducts from the O6-position of… More details

NCBI Summary for Mgmt

enzyme involved in DNA repair of O(6)-alkylguanine which is the major mutagenic and carcinogenic lesion in DNA [RGD, Feb 2006]

UniProt Comments for Mgmt

MGMT: Involved in the cellular defense against the biological effects of O6-methylguanine (O6-MeG) in DNA. Repairs alkylated guanine in DNA by stoichiometrically transferring the alkyl group at the O-6 position to a cysteine residue in the enzyme. This is a suicide reaction: the enzyme is irreversibly inactivated. Belongs to the MGMT family.

Protein type: Nuclear receptor co-regulator; Apoptosis; DNA repair, damage; Methyltransferase; EC 2.1.1.63

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; membrane; nucleus

Molecular Function: methyltransferase activity; methylated-DNA-[protein]-cysteine S-methyltransferase activity; damaged DNA binding; calcium ion binding

Biological Process: response to drug; methylation; response to ethanol; positive regulation of DNA repair; DNA dealkylation; response to folic acid; response to toxin; DNA repair; regulation of caspase activity; response to organic cyclic substance; response to DNA damage stimulus
