TRAIL Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS844791

Background: TRAIL is a cytotoxic protein, which activates rapid apoptosis in tumor cells, but not in normal cells. TRAIL induced apoptosis is achieved through binding to two death-signaling receptors, DR4 and DR5. These receptors belong to the TNFR… More details

Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Solubility/Reconstitution Instructions
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8 degree C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20 degree C to -80 degree C.
Endotoxin Level
< 0.1 ng/mug of protein (<1EU/mug).
Activity (Specifications/test method)
Assay #1: Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of MIP-2 production by mouse spleen cells using a concentration range of 10-100 ng/ml. Assay #2: Measured by its ability to induce apoptosis in LN-18 cells (human glioblastoma cells). The expected ED50 for this effect is 40.0-60.0 ng/ml.

Other Notes

Small volumes of TRAIL active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for TRAIL

TRAIL: Cytokine that binds to TNFRSF10A/TRAILR1, TNFRSF10B/TRAILR2, TNFRSF10C/TRAILR3, TNFRSF10D/TRAILR4 and possibly also to TNFRSF11B/OPG. Induces apoptosis. Its activity may be modulated by binding to the decoy receptors TNFRSF10C/TRAILR3, TNFRSF10D/TRAILR4 and TNFRSF11B/OPG that cannot induce apoptosis. Homotrimer. Widespread; most predominant in spleen, lung and prostate. Belongs to the tumor necrosis factor family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Cytokine

Cellular Component: extracellular space; membrane; integral to membrane

Molecular Function: cytokine activity; tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily binding; tumor necrosis factor receptor binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of apoptosis; apoptosis; positive regulation of caspase activity; immune response
