Other Notes

Small volumes of ST6GAL2 cdna clone vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for ST6GAL2

This locus encodes a sialyltransferase. The encoded type II transmembrane protein catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP to an oligosaccharide substrate. Polymorphisms at this locus may be associated with variations in risperidone response in schizophrenic patients. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. UniProt Comments for ST6GAL2

ST6GAL2: Transfers sialic acid from the donor of substrate CMP- sialic acid to galactose containing acceptor substrates. Has alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase activity toward oligosaccharides that have the Gal-beta-1,4-GlcNAc sequence at the non-reducing end of their carbohydrate groups, but it has weak or no activities toward glycoproteins and glycolipids. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 29 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; EC 2.4.99.1; Transferase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q12.3

Cellular Component: Golgi membrane

Molecular Function: beta-galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase activity

Biological Process: oligosaccharide metabolic process; protein amino acid N-linked glycosylation via asparagine
