Other Notes

Small volumes of Ghrelin elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

MBS704912 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Ghrelin, ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing Ghrelin. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS704912 kit is based on Ghrelin antibody-Ghrelin antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect Ghrelin antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, Ghrelin. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%). Scientists have been using multiple animal models in the study of obesity and metabolic regulation. An understanding of avian hunger hormones, like ghrelin, may reveal evolutionary divergence and point the way to new therapeutic avenues. Research investigations into regulation of biologically active acylated ghrelin verses inactive protein forms in serum and plasma are important progressive steps. An acylated ghrelin ELISA assay kit, available worldwide - United States Czech Republic Djibouti Dominica Dominican East Timor Ecuador Egypt El Salvador Eritrea Estonia Ethiopia Falkland Georgia Germany Ghana Greece Greenland Grenada Guam Guatemala Guinea Finland France Ireland Israel Italy Sweden Switzerland United Kingdom - can detect ghrelin GHRL in cell lysates and cell culture supernatant. EIA antibody assays arrays 166 may be requested by MyBiosource services. Promotional pricing over standard product pricing is in effect for this and human mouse rat acylated ghrelin ELISA kits products.

NCBI Summary for Ghrelin

This gene encodes the ghrelin-obestatin preproprotein that is cleaved to yield two peptides, ghrelin and obestatin. Ghrelin is a powerful appetite stimulant and plays an important role in energy homeostasis. Its secretion is initiated when the stomach is empty, whereupon it binds to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor in the hypothalamus which results in the secretion of growth hormone (somatotropin). Ghrelin is thought to regulate multiple activities, including hunger, reward perception via the mesolimbic pathway, gastric acid secretion, gastrointestinal motility, and pancreatic glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. It was initially proposed that obestatin plays an opposing role to ghrelin by promoting satiety and thus decreasing food intake, but this action is still debated. Recent reports suggest multiple metabolic roles for obestatin, including regulating adipocyte function and glucose metabolism. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. In addition, antisense transcripts for this gene have been identified and may potentially regulate ghrelin-obestatin preproprotein expression. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2014]
