UniProt Comments for ANAPC2

APC2: Component of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), a cell cycle-regulated E3 ubiquitin ligase that controls progression through mitosis and the G1 phase of the cell cycle. The APC/C complex acts by mediating ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of target proteins: it mainly mediates the formation of 'Lys-11'-linked polyubiquitin chains and, to a lower extent, the formation of 'Lys-48'- and 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitin chains. Belongs to the cullin family. The APC/C is composed of at least 12 subunits. Interacts through the cullin domain with ANAPC11 and with UBCH10. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Ubiquitin conjugating system; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q34.3

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; anaphase-promoting complex; cytosol

Molecular Function: ubiquitin protein ligase binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of ubiquitin-protein ligase activity during mitotic cell cycle; mitosis; negative regulation of ubiquitin-protein ligase activity during mitotic cell cycle; regulation of ubiquitin-protein ligase activity during mitotic cell cycle; anaphase-promoting complex-dependent proteasomal ubiquitin-dependent protein catabolic process; cell division; positive regulation of axon extension; mitotic cell cycle spindle assembly checkpoint; positive regulation of synaptic plasticity; positive regulation of dendrite morphogenesis; mitotic cell cycle
