NCBI Summary for CTBP2

This gene produces alternative transcripts encoding two distinct proteins. One protein is a transcriptional repressor, while the other isoform is a major component of specialized synapses known as synaptic ribbons. Both proteins contain a NAD+ binding domain similar to NAD+-dependent 2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenases. A portion of the 3' untranslated region was used to map this gene to chromosome 21q21.3; however, it was noted that similar loci elsewhere in the genome are likely. Blast analysis shows that this gene is present on chromosome 10. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for CTBP2

CTBP2: Corepressor targeting diverse transcription regulators. Functions in brown adipose tissue (BAT) differentiation. Belongs to the D-isomer specific 2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Nuclear receptor co-regulator; Transcription, coactivator/corepressor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q26.13

Cellular Component: transcriptional repressor complex; synapse; cell junction; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; retinoic acid receptor binding; transcription coactivator activity; chromatin binding; NAD binding; transcription corepressor activity; oxidoreductase activity, acting on the CH-OH group of donors, NAD or NADP as acceptor

Biological Process: negative regulation of cell proliferation; transcription, DNA-dependent; white fat cell differentiation; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; positive regulation of retinoic acid receptor signaling pathway; viral genome replication; negative regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent
