This gene encodes a downstream nuclear effector of the Hippo signaling pathway which is involved in development, growth, repair, and homeostasis. This gene is known to play a role in the development and progression of multiple cancers as a transcriptional regulator of this signaling pathway and may function as a potential target for cancer treatment. YAP1: an adaptor protein that binds to HER4 and the SH3 domain of the Yes tyrosine kinase. Associates with multiple transcription factors in the nucleus, and appears to be a co-transcriptional activator for the carboxyl-terminal fragment of ErbB-4 that translocates to the nucleus. Contains a WW domain that is found in various structural, regulatory and signaling molecules.
