NCBI Summary for MAS1

This gene encodes a class I seven-transmembrane G-protein-coupled receptor. The encoded protein is a receptor for angiotensin-(1-7) and preferentially couples to the Gq protein, activating the phospholipase C signaling pathway. The encoded protein may play a role in multiple processes including hypotension, smooth muscle relaxation and cardioprotection by mediating the effects of angiotensin-(1-7). UniProt Comments for MAS1

MAS1: Receptor for angiotensin 1-7. Acts specifically as a functional antagonist of AGTR1 (angiotensin-2 type 1 receptor), although it up-regulates AGTR1 receptor levels. Positive regulation of AGTR1 levels occurs through activation of the G-proteins GNA11 and GNAQ, and stimulation of the protein kinase C signaling cascade. The antagonist effect on AGTR1 function is probably due to AGTR1 being physically altered by MAS1. The MAS oncogene has a weak focus-inducing activity in transfected NIH 3T3 cells. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Protein type: Receptor, GPCR; Oncoprotein; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass; GPCR, family 1

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6q25.3-q26

Cellular Component: cell surface; integral to plasma membrane; intracellular; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: angiotensin receptor activity; angiotensin type II receptor activity; G-protein coupled receptor activity; peptide binding; peptide hormone binding; protein binding

Biological Process: activation of NF-kappaB-inducing kinase; anatomical structure morphogenesis; cell proliferation; G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; hippocampus development; male gonad development; negative regulation of protein amino acid phosphorylation; positive regulation of cell proliferation; positive regulation of DNA replication; regulation of inflammatory response; response to activity; response to drug; spermatogenesis
