VDAC2 Antibody – Rabbit Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS8570958

This gene encodes a member of the voltage-dependent anion channel pore-forming family of proteins that are considered the main pathway for metabolite diffusion across the mitochondrial outer membrane. The encoded protein is also thought to be involved in the… More details

UniProt Comments for VDAC2

VDAC2: Forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane that allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules. The channel adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV. The open state has a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation- selective. Interacts with hexokinases. Expressed in all tissues examined. Belongs to the eukaryotic mitochondrial porin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Mitochondrial; Channel, misc.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q22

Cellular Component: pore complex; mitochondrial outer membrane; mitochondrion; mitochondrial inner membrane; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; nucleotide binding; voltage-gated anion channel activity; porin activity

Biological Process: negative regulation of protein polymerization; transmembrane transport; anion transport
