Other Notes

Small volumes of PSA elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

MBS034265 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing PSA. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS034265 kit is based on PSA antibody-PSA antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect PSA antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, PSA. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for PSA

Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases having diverse physiological functions. Growing evidence suggests that many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and some have potential as novel cancer and other disease biomarkers. This gene is one of the fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. Its protein product is a protease present in seminal plasma. It is thought to function normally in the liquefaction of seminal coagulum, presumably by hydrolysis of the high molecular mass seminal vesicle protein. Serum level of this protein, called PSA in the clinical setting, is useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of prostatic carcinoma. Alternate splicing of this gene generates several transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for PSA

PSA: Hydrolyzes semenogelin-1 thus leading to the liquefaction of the seminal coagulum. Forms heterodimer with SERPINA5. Inhibited by SERPINA5. Activity is strongly inhibited by Zn2+, 100 times more abundant in semen than in serum. This inhibition is relieved by exposure to semenogelins, which are avid zinc binders. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family. Kallikrein subfamily.

Protein type: EC 3.4.21.77; Protease; Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.41

Cellular Component: extracellular region; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; serine-type peptidase activity; serine-type endopeptidase activity

Biological Process: negative regulation of angiogenesis; cellular protein metabolic process; proteolysis
