Species
Human
Activity
1. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized human CD71 at 10ug/ml (100uL/well) can bind human Transferrin. The EC50 of human Transferrin is 5.6ng/mL.
2. Measured in a serum-free cell proliferation assay using MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 0.01-0.04ug/mL.
Endotoxin
<1.0EU per ug of the protein as determined by the LAL method
Predicted N Terminal
Val 20

C-His
Protein Construction
A DNA sequence encoding the human transferrin (NP_001054.1)(Met 1-Pro 698) was fused with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus.
Reconstitution
It is recommended that sterile water (400ul) be added to the vial to prepare a stock solution of 0.25mg/mL. Concentration is mesured by UV.
Molecular Mass
The secreted recombinant human GPR56 comprises 328 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 37.4 kDa. As a result of glycosylation, the apparent molecular mass of rhGPR56 is approximately 50-60 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.

Other Notes

Small volumes of TF active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for TF

This gene encodes a glycoprotein with an approximate molecular weight of 76.5 kDa. It is thought to have been created as a result of an ancient gene duplication event that led to generation of homologous C and N-terminal domains each of which binds one ion of ferric iron. The function of this protein is to transport iron from the intestine, reticuloendothelial system, and liver parenchymal cells to all proliferating cells in the body. This protein may also have a physiologic role as granulocyte/pollen-binding protein (GPBP) involved in the removal of certain organic matter and allergens from serum. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

UniProt Comments for TF

TF: Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage and utilization. Serum transferrin may also have a further role in stimulating cell proliferation. Defects in TF are the cause of atransferrinemia (ATRAF). Atransferrinemia is rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by iron overload and hypochromic anemia. Belongs to the transferrin family.
