UniProt Comments for araQ

Function: Part of the binding-protein-dependent transport system for L-arabinose. Probably responsible for the translocation of the substrate across the membrane.

Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein

Potential.

Induction: Transcription is repressed by glucose and by the binding of AraR to the operon promoter. L-arabinose acts as an inducer by inhibiting the binding of AraR to the DNA, thus allowing expression of the gene. Ref.5

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the binding-protein-dependent transport system permease family. MalFG subfamily.Contains 1 ABC transmembrane type-1 domain.
