Thrombin Active Protein (Bovine Plasma)

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS173189

This active thrombin protein, derived from bovine plasma, functions as a serine protease (EC 3.4.21.5) that selectively cleaves Arg–Gly bonds in fibrinogen to generate fibrin, and is widely used in coagulation cascade studies, recombinant protein tag… More details

Other Notes

Small volumes of thrombin active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

Searchable Terms for thrombin purchase

By acting as a serine protease enzyme, thrombin converts the soluble protein fibrinogen into a matrix forming insoluble complexed clotting and coagulation factor, fibrin. Thrombin is derived from protease cleavage of prothrombin, through vitamin K and calcium binding dependent factors. Inhibition of these amino acids removal in blood by thrombin inhibitors of the thrombin active site results in loss of ability to clot or to activate platelet receptor proteins required for aggregation. Cell research into active site thrombin complex structure, discovery of potential new thrombin inhibitor complex or understanding its crystal structure and crystallographic structure thrombin complex, further require a purified source of thrombin. A purified bovine thrombin, with activities ranging from 50,000 - 150,000 US U/gram. is available as an economical Standard grade lyophilized protein for multiple research laboratory protocols, such as defibrinate human alpha fibrinogen from plasma or removal of affinity tags.
