Other Notes

Small volumes of SMPD3 cdna clone vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for SMPD3

SMPD3: Catalyzes the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin to form ceramide and phosphocholine. Ceramide mediates numerous cellular functions, such as apoptosis and growth arrest, and is capable of regulating these 2 cellular events independently. Also hydrolyzes sphingosylphosphocholine. Regulates the cell cycle by acting as a growth suppressor in confluent cells. Probably acts as a regulator of postnatal development and participates in bone and dentin mineralization. Belongs to the neutral sphingomyelinase family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; EC 3.1.4.12; Phospholipase; Lipid Metabolism - sphingolipid

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16q22.1

Cellular Component: plasma membrane

Biological Process: glycosphingolipid metabolic process; sphingomyelin catabolic process
